Dublin had been on my travel list for a while, and in 2023, I finally made it there for a weekend trip. With my Canon EOS 500N and trusty 50mm f/1.8 lens, I set out to capture the city’s charm on ILFORD HP5, Kodak ColorPlus200 and Santacolor 100 film.

Exploring Dublin
My first stop was Trinity College, Dublin’s famous university. Walking through its historic campus felt surreal, and the Long Room Library was even more impressive in person. The soft natural light filtering through the tall windows made it a perfect place for capturing details on film. The ILFORD HP5, with its deep contrast, really brought out the textures of the old bookshelves and stone walls.
Next, I headed to the Guinness Storehouse, a must-visit for anyone in Dublin. The museum showcases the brewing process and history of the iconic beer. The best part? The Gravity Bar at the top, offering a panoramic view of the city. I switched to Santacolor 100 to capture the vibrant golden tones of the beer and the warm lights inside the bar.

On testing different films there
Dublin’s mix of historic buildings, lively streets, and changing weather makes it an ideal place for film photography. The ILFORD HP5 was perfect for capturing the moody streets and shadows, while Santacolor 100 added warmth and life to the daytime shots. The Canon 500N and 50mm f/1.8 lens were the perfect combo—lightweight, sharp, and versatile enough to handle every scene.
